The Psychological Rooms model is the Four Rooms model in its purest form. The four psychological states we all experience are described here using keywords.
With the help of one of the basic analytical instruments from the Four Rooms of Change, Introduction to the Four Rooms, anyone can grasp the theory and understand its implications for themselves, their group, their organization, or even their family or floorball team with competent guidance.
The different psychological rooms in the model and their meanings
Contentment
Adaptation. Everything feels fine as it is. There is no desire for change. Relaxed control of the situation. Realism. Little self-awareness. A feeling of being ordinary, like anyone else. Things are going well.
Self-censorship and denial
Pseudo-adaptation. Exerting strained self-control to maintain a hollow pattern or carry out a questionable task. There are no clear feelings. The present is exhausting, empty, and mechanical. Irritation. I am preoccupied with others’ image of me, with keeping up appearances, and with playing the game.
Confusion and conflict
Mismatch. Something feels wrong, but I don’t know if it’s me or others who are at fault. Self-absorption. I have restrained feelings of fear, anger, or sadness. Feelings of inferiority. Poor contact with others. I have doubt and uncertainty about what is right and/or what I want.
Inspiration and renewal
Creative change. A feeling of being in development. Aha experiences. Unrestrained emotions. Open and intense contact with the present. Feelings of community. Strong self-confidence. Energy. Clarity. Radical ideas. A willingness to influence.
Everyone can understand the model with psychological rooms
Presenting the concept to a group so that each person can assimilate it using their own experiences and begin applying it immediately takes about three to four hours, depending on the purpose and area of application.
